Datum — Architecture Practice

Selected Works / 2009–2026

Architecture measured in decades.

Datum is a Rotterdam and Copenhagen practice working across cultural, civic, and private commissions. We begin every project with rigorous analysis and a single organising idea — and we remain until it is built.

The Practice

01 / Approach

Every commission is a problem of organisation before it is a problem of form. We resolve the plan first — how people move, how light arrives, how a building meets the ground — and let the architecture follow from that logic rather than precede it.

01

Analysis before form

We read the site, the brief, and the institution before we draw a single line.

02

Material honesty

Structure and surface are the same decision; nothing is applied to disguise what a building is.

03

Built to endure

We design for maintenance, adaptation, and the long life a public building deserves.

03 / Capabilities

Six sectors, one method — so work can be compared across them.

01

Cultural

Museums, galleries, and performance venues.

3 projects

02

Civic

Libraries, archives, and civic halls.

1 project

03

Residential

Private houses and multi-unit housing.

2 projects

04

Commercial

Workplace and mixed-use quarters.

05

Adaptive Reuse

Renewing and extending existing structures.

06

Landscape

Public realm, gardens, and pavilions.

04 / Recognition

“DATUM has quietly become the practice institutions call when a building has to mean something and still work in twenty years.”
